"Presentation of Information Directorate program plan for the Joint Battlespace Infosphere." Guest Speaker: Dr. Northrup Fowler III May 4, 2000.

The Erie Canal Chapter monthly luncheon was held on 4 May 2000 with Dr. Northrup Fowler III presenting the Information Directorate program plan for the Joint Battlespace Infosphere(JBI). Dr. Fowler is the Technical Advisor for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Inoformation Technology Division and is on special assignment as the head architect for the JBI. Dr. Fowler outlined the information needs for the battlefield of the future and described how the Information Directorate will pull together the required technologies to meet those needs. Dr. Fowler noted that crucial to meeting the Information Dominance needs of the field commander will be a network of information that will be tailored to the battlefield conditions and provided to each of the various levels of command in an appropriate manner (i.e. broad level for the overall commander versus fine detail reduced to only the essentials for a company commander.) The details of executing this network in a secure manner, with rapid access to needed information at each level of the command chain are challenging and exciting. This initiavtive has been designated as the top technology development at the Information Directorate. Over 80 people attended this extremly informative luncheon.
