Utica College hosted the regional science fair for Junior Level (7th and 8thgrades) and Senior Level (9th to 12th grades) on April 1, 2000. The over 70exhibitors were the best of the local science exhibits from local MohawkValley science fairs. The overall winner of the Science Fair was invited to participate in the INTEL International Science Fair held in Detroit in May.
Eugene Blackburn, the president of the Erie Canal Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA)- based in Rome, NY-recently presented a check for $750.00 to the Science Fair Committee of Utica College of Syracuse University in support of the college's Regional Science Fair.
The support to Utica College is part of an effort by the AFCEA International Educational Foundation to promote scholastic student interest in electronics, physics, mathematics and computers, and in science fair activities.
Dr.Todd Hutton, President of Utica College, said that the college is most appreciative of the funds received from AFCEA in direct support of the Science Fair, and also of the cash prizes given by the Erie Canal Chapter to students exhibiting at the Science Fair.
At the Awards Banquet following the Regional Science Fair, Dr. Hutton expressed his appreciation to Eugene Blackburn, and members of the Erie Canal chapter, for their continued organizational assistance in preparing for the Regional Science Fair as well as for the judging manpower provided to the science fair by the AFCEA members.
AFCEA (both at the national level and the local Erie Canal Chapter level) canbe very proud of the contributions it makes to this annual celebration of theachievements of Mohawk Valley young people.
